“I come from the mainland. I have crossed the river several times, completed the initiatory journey. Crossing the Rhône at Givors is crossing an ocean and entering new land. […] Givors, for a while, produced dreams of foundation, fantasies of renewal, of re-creation of the world. Some have come from far away to settle there. Because this island is the place of all possibilities. It is an anchor for those who inhabit it and experience it. To do as in Givors is to make your island. " Léonie Pondevie, May 2021.

The river and its island  is an exhibition produced as part of the Creation Residency 5 stars carried by Stimultania in Givors (69), of which Léonie Pondevie was laureate in 2021. For two months, the artist crisscrossed the city and its rivers, setting out to meet spaces and users, soaking up the memory of a city, of its industrial past, its relationship to nature and human history. The exhibition tells the story of conquests and illusions, the adventure of gold miners, fried bleaks and contaminated territories, the cry of the black kite and the thrill of the highway. The images of Léonie Pondevie, romantic and pictorial, lead the visitor into an enchanting contemplation.

WORKSHOP “LIGHT AND MOVEMENT OF WATER”

 DURATION 1H15 / FROM 4 YEARS OLD

After a guided tour oriented, among other things, around the river, its presence full of stories and poetry, the aesthetics of water, the aquatic fauna spotted by Léonie Pondevie, this workshop allows students toexperiment with the technique of light painting.

They thus approach the main principles of photography (the relation to light, the characteristics of the device - diaphragm, speed etc.) while giving free rein to their imagination and to their dexterity.

Missions :

- Trace with lightpainting the movements of water, waves, eddies, overflows, floods.

- Sketch real or imaginary fish, going as far as the chimera, the beast of the depths, the monster.

At the same time, the pupils imagine, describe and draw the aquatic or terrestrial animals that one finds in the depths or the banks of a river closer to their environment, the Rhine.

WORKSHOP “A LONG QUIET RIVER”

 DURATION 1H15 / FROM 11 YEARS OLD

After a visit oriented, among other things, around the link between the river, the city and humans, as well as the underlying environmental issues, the students are invited to deliver testimonies on their own link to the nearby river, the Rhine, and compose staged photographs with "Disruptive elements" echoing certain images by Léonie Pondevie.

This workshop aims to test the photographic technique of studio, staging, photographic sequence andinitiate questions about the environment and the impact of urbanization.

Missions :

- Produce a short photographic sequence with disturbing elements in a photo studio placed at the heart of the exhibition.

- Testify through a work of memory and writing where each student is invited to share a story related to the Rhine, preferably on the banks of Strasbourg.

The images, transmitted a posteriori of the workshop-visit, can serve as a basis for extending discussions around the history of the river, the relationship to water, the environment and pollution, etc.
