Migration is a series of books designed by Alexandre Guirkinger, photographer, and published by RVB-books.
Those devoted to Cherbourg and Givors constitute the first two volumes, others will complete the collection. Alexandre Guirkinger is carrying out a large-scale project: he invites a group of migrants in each city to identify places that marked their arrival, that they frequent daily or that represent France for them. After a location scouting session, the landscapes are produced using a 20×25 camera. Each participant makes contact prints of their photographs before writing the caption in their mother tongue.
From a participatory documentary perspective, Migration tackles the question of landscape through the dynamics of representation and appropriation.
