Explorer: Who travels for a given purpose. Who scrutinizes a place or domain to discover someone or something there, particularly studying sight, touch or an equivalent system that reports on it.

Adventurer: Who goes at random, looks for the unexpected. Who likes risk and engages in expeditions, sometimes by unscrupulous processes, generally in search of discovery, experience or glory.

“Explorer sees, adventurer lives.”
Exploration and adventure are two terms whose interpretations intersect. Inhabited by these subjects in their artistic research, Aurore Émaille and Leïla Fromaget of the collective The Sound of the Eyes propose to the four classes of the Henri Barbusse school to study these two concepts with them.

By putting in parallel the figures of the pupil and the child with those of the explorer and the adventurer, they invite to participate in the creation of two characters taking the form of two “puppet costumes”, made only thanks to school paper waste and the collection of starch. Each chooses one of the five senses related, according to her, to the notion that she is working to conceive one of the characters and to train the children in its construction. The two large masks come to life through the manipulation of children, crisscross the school space and meet during photographic and video staging.

Production: a collective collage on a school wall, a video edited by Aurore Émaille (broadcast on the last day then on the internet), a flipbook designed by Leïla Fromaget published in 200 copies, distributed to students and partners, available for consultation at Stimultania Strasbourg and Givors.
