“Splendid Experiments”: enigmatic as it may be, the title of this magazine, new in the genre, should not frighten. This magazine is designed as a platform for discussion, questions and doubts, meetings and experiments. He wants to be sharp, abundant, didactic, intellectual, incisive, extremely sensitive and all-terrain.
"Splendid Experiments" is an illustrated periodical publication which deals with photography for the purpose of popularization. Far from the hermeticism of culture professionals, the magazine confirms a state of affairs, a succession of stories of human experiences, of splendid experiments between the artist photographer and the public.
"Splendid experiments". It all started with an exhibition, during the summer of 2015. The productions of recent years cover the picture rails. From the outset the tone is set. The exhibition is a manifesto that we must declare. We are working on putting a residency newspaper online. From October 2015, photographers recount, episode after episode, their experiences with the audiences they face. The curious is invited to unwind the pages but they are overflowing with words, images that soon the digital format can no longer contain.
We must therefore switch to paper. Without fuss. We want a magazine rather than a review, we adjust the tone, the words; the themes are spelled out like a credo, introducing photographs and texts that are sometimes incisive, brief and informative, sometimes copious. We are not afraid of critical feedback, of the right questions on the powerlessness of the artist, of the story and of the images. We pay attention to the pleasure of the hands, to the paper, to the format discussed at length.
The number 0 edition is limited to 700 copies, distributed free of charge. The following will be open to other experimenters; we will invite the members of the Diagonal network, talented and intrepid pioneers, we will present exemplary samples of the diversity of expression of this discipline, from the renovation of the medium to the freedom of imagination. Innovative, subtle and thoughtful images, without artificial seduction.
