The public square in front of the Stimultania premises in Givors is getting a makeover.

At the end of 2022, Stimultania submitted the idea of developing the square in front of its premises to the 2023 participatory budget of the City of Givors. This space, where a large plane tree sits, is the place for the festivals that we organize in summer and winter with neighbors to present the creations made at Stimultania, offer workshops and above all meet each other. It is so that this place is a place of passage and life throughout the year that we launched the idea of a redevelopment. The project was accepted and it is the Collective Why not who is chosen for the design and production.

From a desire to promote a citizen factory of the city, the Collective Why not relies on the usage expertise of all the people who practice it. It is located at the crossroads between architecture, design, landscape and town planning, development and construction, animation and consultation. The collective develops projects which demonstrate a desire to consider architectural practice as a vector of transmission and collective projection, by promoting open processes in all phases of the project: assembly, consultation, design, construction.

After a consultation with residents in May and based on their wishes, and the development of scenarios in July, a first phase of the redevelopment project was carried out by the collective Why not last November. In the space of a few days, a terrace made of Douglas fir wood from Allier was created, surrounding the central tree, as well as benches. A second phase of painting and planting is planned for spring 2024.

Around twenty residents took part in the discussions, alongside Stimultania, the Givors Local Democracy Service and the Collectif Quelle Pas.

Spring 2024: development of the square continues

The next collective consultation for the final arrangements will take place on April 11.
