Benoît de Carpentier returns to EREA Amélie Gex, after a first experience in 2017, to explore another artistic region with eighteen young people in CAP collective catering. The common objective: “to look at food with a sensitive eye and to gain access to a new, offbeat and unique perception of food”.

The process is simple: select the food, build its composition, photograph. Then project the image, register your body, photograph. But behind the simplicity lies a complex and rich world. Complexes the placement of food, complex the perception of the image, the relationship to the body, complex the result which takes off towards strange, unreal spheres.

After the concrete realization of the images, the mind wanders.

Korantin and his kiwi becomes “the Eye” in “the Black Hole”. He is “a priest alone on earth”. Flora in front of a cabbage turns into a “goddess of fire”; Anaïs in the flour is found “under the moon”; Charline and Sandra are “close to you” on a “floating island” in the middle of a “hurricane” and a “rough sea”. Théo et la fraise is “top chef” “in front of the cave”. Mohamed and his melted sugar becomes “Angry Poseidon”.

"The images produced will speak differently to everyone. For my part, they are part of the continuity of my work and testify to my taste for narration and the mixing of different spaces: the space of the image (here the projection) and that of the real (the students). The creation of a new, unique and fictional space.

I find in these images my attraction for the unknown, that is to say this taste for infiltrating myself behind the first appearance of things, in search of a feeling of astonishment, surprise, expectation. .

These images therefore probably speak of my perceptions set up in childhood and which underlie my relationship to the world. The world being for me a spectacle that I try to fathom by looking at it, remaining in it most of the time. Images of an inaccessible, mysterious and hidden reality."
