Support by the DRAC and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region within the framework of the Découverte Région, Passeurs de culture call for projects.

The students of the STI2D section of the Lycée l'Oiselet design and manufacture objects linked to sustainable development. Useful objects, manual and practical work, a careful and scientific approach.

The first class is invited to approach the object differently, through photography and creation, to extract its poetic essence, its aesthetic reality, and its weight of memory.

Melania Avanzato, artist photographer from Lyon, brings her sensitive universe and her precise gaze to accompany the 18 young people.

“Objects inhabit our lived world, they surround us or follow us, simple extras or memory triggers, holders of secrets, invested with hidden meanings, objects are the active mediators of our appropriation of the world.

Our project was to make things dialogue, to create bridges between what we are, personal objects as an extension of our identities and small relics of our stories, and ordinary objects on which we almost never pay our attention. , as they blend into our common universe.

All these “ready-mades” have a story, however. Conceived, thought out, utilitarian or abandoned, each object is a human creation which suggests the place of the things which mark our path. ” Melania Avanzato

A soft, almost intimate approach, where photography is made outdoors, free and quiet, to play with the environment, with bodies and faces. Everyone will have brought their own personal item (s) full of stories. It is then in the walk that a dialogue takes place. The allotted time is short, the shots are spontaneous, intuitive.

The result is a series of photographs which combine the students' production - photographs of objects, details encountered on the way - and that of the artist who lingers on faces, looks, attitudes. The result is also a set of words, which appear during the excursions to end up merging with each other, forming a whole.

Production and distribution: 17 folded A4 format booklets, distributed to students and partners; sound slide show broadcast during the collective exhibition Hurry to Live, Stimultania Strasbourg 2018

Born in 1978, Melania Avanzato lives in Lyon. " Born on the shores of the Mediterranean to Italian parents, I grew up between two countries. Uprooting and travel naturally lead me to use images very early on as a memory accessory. After a degree in History and then a photography school, Melania Avanzato worked for publishing houses and in an agency as a portrait painter of authors. At the same time, she is developing an artistic work represented by the galleries of Comptoirs Arlésiens de la jeune photographie and Lac Gelé. She is a member of the Parallèle collective and regularly works in schools throughout France.
